Grover Hartley Collection = Complete At Last

Earlier this year, I erroneously posted that I had completed my Grover Hartley collection. For those that don't know, Grover Hartley was the manager of the minor league team my grandpa and great uncle played for. I had received the Weil Baking in January and thought I was done. I made this thread to celebrate, only to be reminded by the comments below that I had completely forgotten about the T207 Anonymous Factory 25 back. A couple weeks ago, Greg Morris Cards posted one for auction on eBay - I won it and it arrived today. I thought I was done after that. There is a list of Hartley's cards on Trading Card Database that includes a T210 and a 1917 Merchants Bakery. The T210 is not Grover Hartley and is incorrectly listed under his profile. There is also no photo of the Merchants Bakery, and I had never seen a recorded sale; I chalked it up as speculation (it has actually been removed from his checklist, but will need to be updated). Through the card shop I work at, I have access to Card Ladder Pro and last Friday I randomly decided to search for "Merchants Bakery Hartley."

1 sale - a BVG 1 sold in 2010.

Finally proof of existence. I was both excited and pissed because I knew I had a slim to none chance at actually finding it. I posted on this forum "LF Merchants Bakery Grover Hartley" on Friday, November 28th. Saturday morning, I woke up to a message: "I have it." He sent me a photo and sure enough, it was the BVG 1, seemingly the only one known to exist. 30 minutes later, the deal was done and he shipped it right away.

Both the T207 Anonymous Factory 25 and the 1917 Merchants Bakery arrived on the same day - today, December 1st. He has a 1914 New York Evening Sun Supplement that I am not including in this run, but do have a saved search on eBay in case one ever pops up. So, as of today, I have officially completed the run of Grover Hartley cards - to my knowledge, the only run to exist in the world. Here is a YouTube video about my connection to Hartley.

Congrats on the run Kyle, player runs can be some of the toughest to complete, especially obscure players with rare cards. I'm one away from completing my player run and fingers crossed that final card pops up somewhere.

I started this in 2017 or so IIRC. Not as long as some collections, but certainly a decent chunk of life.

Question - Does the T207 Anonymous card of Hartley come with both backs, Factory 3 and Factory 25? A T207 set collector, which I am not, would likely know the answer right off the top.

That said, Kyle - your accomplishment is awesome. I tried briefly to do some of the other cards for T207 players and realized just how difficult it was. Many congrats on finishing the Hartley backrun.

and no, I don't have the link. I can only remember its been since September, and was one of the larger auction houses. Possibly the REA auction where a bunch of Anon 25's were offered - the one that also had the Ellis Anon Fac 3.

Scratch that - Ellis was in the November REA Encore, but Hartley was not... don't know now which one I saw him in... I'll poke around and see if I can find it. If I recall he was in an SGC 1 slab.

Mike, thanks for answering my question, which I thought might be of interest to Kyle. The reason I thought Hartley likely had both Anonymous backs (Factories 3 and 25) is that the only T207 cards from the Broadleaf-Cycle Group I have are those of George Mogridge, who was a key pitcher on the 1924 Senators WS Championship Team, and I have both of his Anonymous backs.

General rule of thumb is that all 50* Broadleaf/Cycle cards can be found with Broadleaf, Cycle, and both Anon factories 3 and 25.

I believe Kyle and I chatted about that when discussing the T207 Hartley backs at some point in the past, but my memory could be foggy.

* - Only the 51st card (the Lewis no-emblem) is unconfirmed with Cycle and Anon Fac 25, to the best of my knowledge.

Whoops - forgot about this thread and glad I came back.

You guys are correct and my run is not yet complete, unfortunately. I don't know whether or not to thank you guys or curse you haha.

Factory 25 is what I'm missing. On the hunt for that now.

To everyone else, thank you all for the premature congratulations (my fault). We will revisit this when it's fully complete haha.
