He has five different poses in the N172 Old Judge set according to the book and off the top of my head he has an 1889 ER Williams game card. There might be more, but nothing that I can think of at the moment.

Edit: There is a copy of ER Williams card on eBay at the moment.

Very nice indeed. It appears to be very rare. I hope I can track down one in good shape, even if it isn't PSA 8.

I think the first deaf player (also successful) should have had more recognition. It is a real shame he was labeled as "dummy" in the league like Taylor was.

Thanks for the link, Bobby. I wish I had known about him having cards in that set years ago. Not easy to find and pricey in good grade. I will try and keep an eye out for more.

National Copper Plate, great card of Hoy. Very tough. I think there is also an N173 but I haven’t seen it. Anyone have a Hoy cabinet?

Please, refrain from "not" saying "Dummy", its alright. Always use the capitol "D" for his name.

A very interesting guy — seems like he didn’t mind Dummy because he was so damn smart.

Man those WG1s are TOUGH. Been looking for an Indianapolis example, but no luck so far. I hadn’t seen a full one until the National this year, and I only saw 1 there.

Robert, have you reached out to Jay Miller to see if he has an N172?

It's a misconception that the nickname "Dummy" meant stupid. It was more like the old phrase "dummy up", which meant stop talking. It meant he couldn't talk. There are even articles later in his life when the meaning of the word changed, which said that it had nothing to do with his smarts and he got it because he was a deaf mute.

He didn't mind the nickname at all. In fact, old interviews with him had him introducing himself as Dummy Hoy, and he signed autographs with the nickname.

It's a nickname lost with time because people now think it meant something else. When Baseball-Reference did a sweep of all nicknames they considered to be offensive, he was one where it didn't make sense to get rid of it. They did it without research though, so they got rid of ones that didn't need to be removed. Brownie Foreman was one, which is ridiculous, because his nickname literally came from the dessert. Chief Wilson was another stupid one. He got it from Fred Clarke, who said he looked like he could be the chief of the Texas Rangers (the lawmen) and he was from Texas. It got swept away with all of the other Chiefs.

They won't get rid of the "Kitty" nickname for William Bransfield, even though he absolutely hated the nickname and said at times he wanted to fight people over it. Partly because the nickname was "Kiddie", because he was a young player on a team that had a slightly older kid nicknamed "Kid". I've mentioned it a few times to them. The guy loathed the name in life, I doubt he wants to forever be known that way. I at least got them to drop the "Kaiser" nickname from Irvin Wilhelm, who was a similar case to Bransfield. He said numerous times the nickname was insulting to him and he hated it.
