Sorry if this has been mentioned before, as I just saw the article it came from which was written about a year ago. It seems as though there was a variation of the 1960 Topps regular issue Mantle card, and this one features a cartoon in which Mickey is swinging at the middle of three baseballs he sees coming at him due to being inebriated!

So I thought I would share . . . You can check out the full article, provocatively titled "The Rarest Mickey Mantle Card": https://medium.com/@JohnDempseyIV/th...d-7fbf4c7c2454 Last edited by robw1959; 06-05-2025 at 11:09 PM. |

I shared it a while back on the Mantle thread. I don't really think people lean heavily one way or the other on it yet in terms of authenticity. Some think it was made later by a topps employee. And even if real isn't from 1960. But it has a solid backstory.

To me it looks damn good, the back looks 100% real and the cartoon style looks on point. So that should rule out any recent tomfoolery. I don't think the front of the card is posted online, the photo from the article states the front is just a standard 1960, it doesn't say anything about it being the front of the card with the hangover cartoon.

It's not a production piece but whether or not it's something created by a Topps employee having some fun has yet to be established.
