That's pretty darned cool, alright. Whoever is doing this is running the video (mp4, probably) through one of the many AI applications out there that use algorithms to determine color. Most have no user interface to adjust color after making a pass; thus Jimmie's cap going from blue to red. It can be done, but you pay for that.
There is a huge repository of old baseball films at the University of South Carolina, much of it digitized and formerly available online. My guess is that is the source for most of the video being used for these colorizations. Also of note, when Jimmie was with the A's, and up until 1936, I believe, their spring training was held at Terry Park in Fort Myers. The wooden grandstands burned down, replaced by concrete and metal destroyed by a hurricane, and now metal but seating far fewer than originally. The field is the same one that Foxx, Simmons, Cochrane and all the others played on, including Ruth and Gehrig when the Yankees came down from St. Petersburg.

Foxx rookie.
Pretty unusual swing he had, no? Seems a bit uncontrolled, but how do you argue with his success?! |
