| Elitest card hawkers

Posted By: runscott Okay, I just irritated another big "PRO" (self-described) dealer. So what. One of the BIG dealers bid on a fake Cobb with a Ty Cobb back a while back. Like an elephant, I never forgot their name. Now I'm seeing that they sell autograph cuts and GUARANTEE authenticity. Sorry, I just don't buy it - who in their right mind would buy an autograph cut on a white index card from someone who bids on fake vintage cards??? So I sent them an email and got a scathing elitest reply about how it must have been their employees and they auction things through Sothebys and Mastro...yak.yak.yak. blah blah ...Barry Halper...blah...blah...I can show anyone the ropes..blah...blah... |

Posted By: runscott I originally asked the guy how he could guarantee autograph authenticity and where he got the autograph. I did not get answers to either of these questions, just a bunch of name-dropping. |

Posted By: Julie Vognar incredible! The whole thing was obviously a setup--several people agreed to bid on the "card" and then all retracted their bids. Nobody actually BID on the thing. I'm sure some of the "bidders" were the same person (the ones with 0 feedback), but there were severasl legitimate people--but not bidding in earnest. You don't have 15 people bidding on a card and then all retracting their bids by coincidence! |

Posted By: runscott according to him, his employee placed the bid and then he retracted it. My point is that there's no place for elitism in this hobby - no one is immune from making mistakes. And if you claim that you can show ANYONE the ropes because you're an expert, then what is one of your proteges doing bidding on crap like this? |
