Post-ACC recognized catalog labels

Many publications and collectors recognize some ACC letter-number assignments that were not in the original ACC..ie..W9316 Strip card set of 10, H105 Father & Sons Phillies.

I know there was an individual that catagorized these and other issues awhile back, can anyone tell me who this gentleman was, and where I can possibly get his entire listing of post-ACC designations? I would sincerely appreciate the help!!

That well-known Indianapolis dealer produced the "Stirling Sports Card Catalog" copyright 1977, with an attempt to re-number the card world. It never caught on. I've always questioned the need for arcane numbering systems; it seems elitist and needlessly confusing. Wht say R323 when you mean 1938 Goudey?

This is true for most sets, but would you call t206s and other sets issued by a number of different sompanies then?

...or gold border tobacco cards for t205's. If that isn't good enough, you could prefix with "ATC" or "American Tobacco Company".

But I like the numbering scheme, and use it when it works for communicating with others, abandoning it when it doesn't (cards after '33 Goudeys).

I think ACC #'s are a must for W cards. Also for some E cards. I'll stick with E91-B over "1909 Amer. Caramel w/ Cubs/A's/Giants on back". But if the issue has a descent name, why use the ACC # (i.e. JuJu Drum over E???).

Interesting topic though. It might be nice to extend the ACC numbers for some of the uncataloged issues. On the other hand, anything w/ a descent name doesn't need a UNC label stuck on it (i.e. E-UNC Baseball bats, N-UNC Four Base Hits).
