Is this Connie???
Posted By: Chris
Picked up this postcard the other day -- as you can see, one of the (many) old men is labeled as Connie Mack -- does that look like him to anyone else? I think I see a resembelance, but I wanted to ask and see if it is just wishful thinking. Also, anyone recognize any of the other old men in suits as former players? |

(was there ever such a long, lean drink of water?) but i'd have to see a clearer picture to be sure. perhaps the group and occasion will be familiar to someone here. |

Even with the enlarged size of the scan, it's tough to get a real good look at the face, but it appears to me that the person in question has at least a passing resemblance to Connie Mack. |

I do not think it's Connie for 1 reason... I did a websearch and according to http://www.internationalsoftball.com/history.html, the world famous 75 and older softball team was formed in 1931 and toured that year. I believe Connie Mack was born in December of 1862, which means that in 1931, he was either 68 or 69 years old. Well, that means that either Kids and Kubs had a ringer on their team - or that guy is not Connie since he was not the right age. |

Ahhh ignore what I said... even though the team started in 1931 - they are still around so unless the postcard is from 1931, then that picture could have been taken after Connie Mack turned 75 and could be him! My bad! |

Interestingly, Babe Ruth used to umpire their games. |

Look at older A's team pictures. His posture is similar to this. |

Without commenting on the identity of the man in the pc, I can imagine a famous non-member manager posing with the team. Kind of like Wayne Gretzky being asked to appear with the Edmonton pee wee hockey champs. |

The guy to the right looks like an older Honus Wagner. Reminds of me of the 1948 Leaf image. |

Looks like him, but if he had a scorecard in his hand, it would be a dead give away. (no pun intended) |

Honus in his later days was rather portly, like this gentleman, and it does seem to bear a passing resemblance to him. |

I concur with Julie. It's a standard term for meaning the opposite. It reminds me of my shortest loss in court, quoting the judgment: "Despite Mr. Weder's able argument, the appeal must fail". In other words, and with all due respect to me, they thought my argument was really stupid, perhaps really un-able. |

Common linen postcard, seen it a hundred times up close and personal. There are even much clearer real photo versions. Not Connie. Not Mack. Not even his wife who he divorced when he was like 80 (80?!?! What's the point?). Always wished there was some one else there as well. |

You said "wish there was someone else there as well." Are you still talking about the card at the top of the thread? |

..but you can see how --Mack-like- he looked with teammates. Hoy is seated in front of him, to the (our) left. It's a terrible reproduction of a photo--which I was sold AS IS. |
