there are two famous photographs of the new york knickerbockers---the 1848 one where they are wearing straw hats---and the one with them and the excelsiors----does the hall of fame have them or are they in private hands? thanks for any info anyone has.

One of the board members owns the Knicks dag, and he is identified in the Smithsonian book.

The panoramic of the Knicks and Excelsiors may still exist, and I have heard of a family who one but it is not known if it is original or a later printing. The Spalding Collection has a negative of it, suggesting reproductions may have been made.

Barry, Regarding your reference to the Spalding Collection....Is that a collection owned by the Spalding Company? I've never heard of it.

The Spalding Collection was amassed by Albert Spalding and donated to the New York Public Library after his death in 1919.

Carlton- that's a nice photo but I don't think it's period; in other words, it was issued well after 1859. I would venture to say it's 20th century. But I've seen it in person and it has great eye appeal.
