On vacation....12 wonderful "blue sky" and "deep blue water" days on the Aegean Sea.

And, now I am back in the "Good ole USA"........I was a "reader" of Net54 on occasion,
while in Athens, and I am responding to several inquiries as to my new Booth # at the
Philly Show in Reading....Dec 1-3rd.

I can be found at BOOTH # 308

Also, I received email questions regarding my 1949 LEAF BB set article in this issue
of OLD CARDBOARD.....so, if any of you have any other questions that, perhaps, I
did not answer (or make clear)......please feel free to ask here.

Too funny Gil. I was just trying to explain the concept of absolute zero to my students and the basis for the Kelvin scale. Now for homework convert 308K to Celsius and Fahrenheit.

.308 was the lifetime batting average of King Kelly.

Ted, great article. It was informative but more importantly to me it brought back great memories of opening packs with my friends in the late 70's and early 80's.

Heres how i will remember:

Jim Perry gave up 308 career home runs. He was also a member of the Detroit Tigers for one year.Det is often abbreviated det. which is Ted backwards.Perry was also traded for John Blue Moon Odom,who was a member of the 1974 A's which had a .308 slugging % in the AL playoffs.He was also a teammate of Vida Blue that year,and both Ted and I will be Blue like them if i dont stop by to see him

At Ft Washington I was at Booth # 212 and I would tell everyone to remember the
boiling point of water......that was easy for most.

Now, you are telling us to remember the melting point of Cesium....308 K....I don't
think that will do it for most of us BB card collectors.

We need something simple.

Geez - I woke up this morning, read this thread and thought I had time-warped back to an episode of Mr. Wizard.

Look, the vast majority of the board readers are much younger than Ted and me. They shouldn't need any tricks to remember Ted's new booth number. So, if you're over fifty and you plan on going to the Reading show, hitch a ride with one of them and then all you'll have to remember is to bring money (and hope there's something there to use it on).

Not too many ever had a problem locating me at Ft Washington, as I had an ideal location
on the way to the snack area. However, if I suggested to some that I was Booth #212,
and to remember "boiling point".....I'd say I was quite surprised how people did not know
it was "212". And, most were much younger than you or I.

I agree with you, John D's suggestion is sort of clever.

But, I'll make it real simple.....the digits 3-0-8 add up to "11".....which, has always been
my favorite number.
This goes back to when I was 5 years old and realized I was born in the eleventh month.

Gil, what's your favorite number ?

I dont think we ever had a favorite number thread on here. Mine used to be 4 when i was a kid,but my favorite player was Carlton Fisk by the time i was 9 so i changed it to 72 a few years later

Like you, I too associated favorite #'s with BB players' uniform #s.

Since I was a Yankee fan and 11 was my favorite #, one of my favorite Yankees
was Joe Page (who wore #11). He was a tremendous Relief Pitcher who greatly
helped the Yankees win their 1947 and 1949 World Championships.

Joe would come in as early as the 6th inning and completely "shut down" the opposing
team. Page was the set-up man and the closer wrapped up in one guy.

And, like you, another number that became my favorite was #27......Johnny Lindell.
Johnny hit the HR to win the play-off game vs Red Sox in the 1949 season to put the
Yankees into the World Series. I still recall that event as if it was just yesterday.
