1909 - present. The best thing about being basically unfocused is that I collect pretty much what I want to collect. I do have a box of 5 cards that are in storage. I also have a shoebox of 200+ of special cards that includes the likes of T206 Matty's White and Dark cap. T205 Joe Tinker, '35 Goudey Babe Ruth, etc.

Lately I have been getting into some neat Zeenut poses, and without coupons they are actually somewhat affordable....with Coupon- not so affordable. My focus is add to another Lakers Championship t-shirt to my collection. Minnesota got 4 nobody's from the Celtics, and I mean nobody's, for Kevin Garnett.

GM Kevin McHale got a much worse deal than the good deal the Lakers offered. He opted for the worse deal JUST so LA wouldn't have Garnett.

Still plugging along on the one card of every player from 1908-45. I haven't bought a card since Nov last year because I am saving up to buy a Joe Jackson card. Once that's out of way, it's all down hill as I will have all the HOFers and expensive players out of way. The only thing that will slow me down, besides the twins, are the rarities like the J=K Candy card of Bedient, of which I think there are only 2 known copies and I understand both are owned by people working on the set

When the time comes for me to buy again I'd like to type collect pre-war at this point. Especially late 19th-to-early-20th century.
My post-war, '48 to '70 or so, greatly outnumbers my pre-war -- by the thousands -- and I think my post-war collecting is done (as in, I'm generally satisfied except if something comes right under my nose.) Most likely I'd deal some of them to finance the pre-war.

I'll admit it, I'm all over the place. I love the Mecca folders, T206's, and T205's. Unfortunately, I also collect Musial, Bob Gibson, Stargell, and Clemente (just a touch of modern due to childhood heroes). And let's not forget Hockey... Don't get me started on hockey. No wonder I can't afford to tackle a set!

I'm going after a handful of historically significant/popular big-hitters.

I just never got into collecting sets. I get more enjoyment out of dropping $600 on a T206 Cobb and framing it rather than having 50 common T206's sitting in a box. Just a personal preference.

My list includes a 1933 Goudey Ruth, T206 Cobb/Mathewson/Johnson, 1934 Goudey Gehrig, and the Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe, and some 19th century examples (not player specific). I've acquired 3 from my wishlist of 9 cards.

I have struggled with this decision for awhile now...
And the best part of a personal hobby is that there really are no rules...

But I really want to get back to my collecting roots. I started with pre-war HOFers and moved into a few pre-war sets, went back to try to fill in all of the holes in my Topps 1953-1980 run, picked up type cards any time I could find or afford them...and before long I couldn't tell what I "wasn't" collecting !!

I guess I don't have time to dedicate to searching out commons and trying to remember who I have and who I need. I don't spend any time "enjoying" the cards anymore, so I want to FOCUS on something...I think.

So I might be de-commissioning my sets and my type cards. Maybe you'll see some BST activity from me...and then again, I might see a York Caramel on line that doesn't sell for 6 times the amount it did 2 months ago and continue working on that set...see how hard it is to focus!!

I'm going to try to collect soley HOF cards.

Does anyone have a list already created of the HOFers from each of the (mainstream) pre-war sets?
I know that lists exist of each card of each HOF by name, how about by set?

Anyway, it's such a great hobby...and such a great sport. While everyone was watching Bonds yesterday, I watched the Giants young hurler Pat Misch and his excellent curveball...great stuff!

Detroiters from before about 1915. I have at least one from all of the mainstream sets except E94, so I pick up extras from some of the caramel sets occasionally.

Lately though I've been really watching for images of female players from before 1915 or so. It's taken me into postcards, photos, cabinet cards, etc and has been very fun. Definitely unfamiliar territory though as far as value and figuring out what to pay. But I like that each one is almost unique, and the thrill of discovery and finding one is the real hook. Only 7 or 8 pieces so far, but I really like all of them.

I also pick up various HOF'ers if they seem like a good deal, and will always watch for Ruth cards.

So focus? Right now I'd have to say the female players, at least for the past 6-8 months. Overall in my collecting career it's been the Detroiters.

Pre-WWII. With the exceptions of 1910 W-Unc, 1915 W-Unc, W502 (1931), W503, W504 and W590, I avoid W-cards like the plague. Outside of these self constraints, my focus is that I collect anything to my liking. I do not collect E91s.
