Just remembered this one while reading about the 50+ HR guys....

Only three players have had 40 or more homers in a season, but less than 200 homers for their career. (Excluding any current guys who may have done it and are still active.)

Name them.

Edit to add that all three are post-war but somewhat vintage (50's - 70's).

Well, I just checked, and Conigliaro topped-out at 36, so he didn't do it. Hidalgo last played in 2005, so it is (at least) four players who've done it.

Def some help, although I did know Davey Johnson and Hidalgo hit 40HR and figured they both didn't amass 200 HR.

I knew Rosen hit 40, but to be honest I figured he hit over 200HR!!

Gentile I would have never guessed!

Interesting that of the four players, Davey Johnson played the most seasons (13) and hit the fewest career homers (136).

Le Grande Orange ... Rusty Staub homered as a teenager and a 40 year old and had 500 hits with 4 different teams.

Tommy Herr had over 100 RBIs with fewer than 10 HRs in the mid 80s, when the Mets and Cards took turns winning. 1985 or 1987?? Don't know if he was among the last 2, but he did it.
