| show your strip cards

I enjoy strip cards as I know a few other members do too. They are one of the few areas of pre-war collecting where you can still do it on a budget. Well, unless you fight over some obscure ones. While Lew doesn't think these are strip cards, and is probably correct, that is the way they are listed, 1915 W-Unc. Show some of your stip cards if you would like to ..... I was very excited to get these in the mail today.

| which? Quote:
...."strip" card can really only loosely be defined anyway, imo. And that can take the connotation of "strip" in a whole different direction !!

You got that right, Paul. That's the only example I have ever seen, although I think one of the big auction houses currently has a couple of the complete team uncut sheet sets and I believe that the Giants may be in there.

| ???

OK, this might not be the right place for this question, BUT, how does a card marked on the holder "HAND CUT" get a numerical grade? I see from the multiple posts that some get a grade and others get an "A". Does anyone know how that process works? If the strip collectors out there submit a card for grading do you already know how it will come back based on the history of that issue or is it a crap shoot? Just curious if anyone has any opinions. Nice cards all and thanks for sharing!

What I have found, for the most part, is if the card meets the minimum size requirements based on the measurements listed in the SCBC, the grading company will usually give a numerical grade, otherwise it usually gets an "Authentic".

I've sent strip cards to both SGC and PSA and it's like playing craps. Obviously, a strip card has to have all four margins to receive a numerical grade (although, I've had exceptions). But, in my opinion, on any given strip card submission, whether one receives a grade other then "A," depends solely on the grader. Regrettably, there just isn't any ryhme or reason to the process. I'll post a pic later today of a recently submitted SGC graded Cobb strip card, that I thought was a 100% candidate for a number grade. Alas it came back authentic. Lovely Day... |
