After a distinguished career in the Army Air Forces, Audie Murphy helped Hap Arnold and Tooey Spatz lead the charge to create the US Air Force in 1947. Audie was also in some movies, and was featured in the first ever series of Topps cards in 1948. So even though he didn't play baseball (to my knowledge), he goes back to the early days of card collecting.
