I just thought you should know:
Yesterday the SF Giants defeated Philadelphia when Patrick Bailey overcame a 2-run, ninth-inning deficit with a walk-off, inside-the-park homerun with two runners on. The last time a catcher ended a game with an inside-the-park homerun, it was 1926 and the catcher was Benny Tate. H. Bennent "Bennie" Tate. Catcher with the Washington Senators in 1924-1930. World Series champion in 1924. 4 home runs and 172 RBIs in 10 MLB seasons. His most productive season was 1931 with the Chicago White Sox as he posted a .331 OBP with 27 runs scored in 305 plate appearances. His last season was 1934 with the Chicago Cubs. Tate helped Washington win the 1924 World Series and the 1925 American League pennant. I don't have any cards for Bennie (I'll bet Val does), but I have this photograph: ![]() Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk |
