Toots Shor's opened in the 1940's, moved to a new location in the early 60's and was closed down in the early 1970s for tax evasion. It was the New York hotspot for baseball players and celebrities. Joe DiMaggio probably more than anyone else made it famous...it was a place where he could go and not get hounded for autographs...DiMaggio didn't have many friends through his life, but Toots was probably as close to him as anyone ever got. |
