We were going to jump in to explain/defend the "needs fired" phrasing (we offer no opinion on the gist of the actual topic)
when it was first questioned, but the thread quickly left the issue behind. Thanks, Fred and Zach, for reviving the subtopic. The construction is part of a regional dialect (one we find charming) that runs in an east-west band mainly from Central Pennsylvania to Central Ohio, and probably epitomized by "Pittsburghese."
