I liked the idea H&S had a while back, that if you opted out of receiving the catalog, you got some sort of small discount on each purchase ($10?). I haven't seen that advertised by them (or anyone else) any longer; I thought it might be a good way to cut down on some printing and mailing costs.
I would gladly accept a discount of 1-2% on buyer's premiums to not receive a catalog. If auction houses put a cap on what that discount might be (say it maxes out at $20) to protect themselves against that discount on major purchases, they could save a bunch of money. What say you, auction houses?
