FS: Ultra Rare Pie Traynor Game Used Side Written Bat PSA/DNA GU8
Pie Traynor was a notorious bat "borrower" in his day, going around and asking for bats of other players to use for himself. He claims that the Pirates did not need to order a bat for him after his rookie season. He also claims that he and Paul Waner shared a single bat for the entire 1927 season.
If these stories are true...or even mostly true...then it stands to reason that many of the Pie Traynor signature model bats on the market are, in reality, team index bats. The only side written Traynor bats that I have seen on the market to this point have been Traynor model bats that were side written for another player (thus possibly confirming their use as team index bats). This is the first and only example that I have ever seen of a side written bat with his name on it. Again, if Traynor's own statements are to be believed, then the possibility exists that this bat could be unique in that respect. It is an ash bat 35 inches and 33.1 ounces. It is uncracked. Please see photos below. It has been side written "Pie Traynor 41624". There are two knob chips and excellent overall game use. Please PM for further information if needed. This is a very special and possibly unique Hall Of Famer game used bat. Tom C Last edited by btcarfagno; 06-22-2016 at 07:58 AM. |
