Fifty years ago, the Pirates fielded first all-Black lineup
Interesting LA Times article on the 1971 Pirates. If anyone has the '71 cards of these nine players, I'd love to see them posted.
https://www.latimes.com/sports/story...sity-milestone From the article. (make sure to scroll all the way to the end - great phots throughout) Pittsburgh’s lineup 50 years ago Wednesday included two future Hall of Fame players, Clemente and left fielder Willie Stargell, and four other players who were current or future All-Stars: Sanguillen, first baseman Al Oliver, third baseman Cash and a Southern California native and a Gardena High School grad, pitcher Dock Ellis. Rounding out the starters were shortstop Jackie Hernandez, second baseman Rennie Stennett and center fielder Gene Clines. Last edited by Vegas Cards; 08-31-2021 at 12:07 PM. |
