Went through something similar with some 1948 Leafs a while ago. Mine had glue and scrapbook paper over large portions of the back, so I went with a full soak. Just to give you a heads up on the way I dried them out in case you need to as well: I put down a big auction catalog, sandwiched the cards with a couple pieces of printer paper on each side, and then added like 3 more old REA catalogs on top. You need to check them every couple hours early on and change the paper out, and also be careful that any remaining tackiness on the back doesn't cause problems when changing out the paper. This method worked well for me, but your mileage may vary of course. And def try it out on cheaper cards first! Best of luck to ya!
