I don't know if many vintage collectors realize this, but being a 1/1 card isn't that rare now. Topps literally just sold two 1/1 Paul Skenes cards yesterday. All you had to do was buy one of his Topps Now cards during the 24-hour sale and it gave you a chance to win one of those two card (plus others that were sold in limited numbers). I have no idea why the Pirates decided to pick one specific card and go all in on it. It could be that Skenes himself wants the card and went through the team to get it, but it makes no sense to pick one card of his and go for it like it's the holy grail. He had plenty of cards printed before that one.

Please check out my books on baseball history. They include the bio of star second baseman Dots Miller. A book featuring 20 Moonlight Graham players who got into just one game. Another with 13 players who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the regular season, but never played a game. There's also one about 27 baseball families, as well as a day-by-day look at the worst team in Pittsburgh Pirates history. All five can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/John-D...hor/B0DH87Q2DS
