Anyone Heard These Stories?

I was a forensic accountant / fraud investigator for a number of years before returning to school. It is with great chagrin that I report that I worked on a least four not-for-profit cases whereby the perpetrator took between $150,000 and $250,000 from the charity for personal gain, lifestyle, etc.

In every instance, the board of directors decided to not prosecute, as prosecution entails making it public record. The not-for-profit entity usually got reimbursed pennies on the dollar - and it's not even clear if the pepetrator was given a bad reference after they were fired....
