This. As a young kid my absolute favorite cards were the 1976 Topps All-Time All-Stars cards and the 1979 Topps All-Time Record Holders cards. I was probably the exception as I was a complete history nerd, but how else was I going to get a cool looking Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Cy Young or Hack Wilson card?
