| Thanks to Leon Part Two

A few years back, I had sent in six vintage wax boxes to GAI for grading / encapsulation. They asked if I wanted to auction one box through their "auction process" and what would my minimum bid be? I authorized them to auction one box with a $2,500 minimum bid. I got my five boxes back and then someone alerted me that my other box was listed on eBay for $4,000 somewhere in California. When I looked at the map of the seller's location, it was a store in the same area as GAI. When I phoned GAI to ask what was going on, they said I had authorized a "sale" so they went ahead and sold it and now this guy was reselling it. The only small hitch in this equation was the fact that I didn't get any money from this sale. When I phoned to see what was going on, I was told that the "cheque was in the mail". Then I came on the board here and saw all of the kerfuffle about GAI closing and the bells started going off. They did end up closing and when I demanded my money they said I would have to wait until they reopened again for business. Right !! Long story short, I contacted Leon, he got me a personal cell # for Mike Baker and after a few calls back and forth (none too pleasant) I was refunded the money by PayPal personally by Mike Baker so kudos to him as well. I am in Canada and the odds of me getting my dough back were between slim and none. I am still indebted to Leon to this day as without him getting involved I am pretty sure I would have been beat. There's more to this nutty story re GAI employees and the store selling stuff but this is enough for today. |

You are welcome Q, and no indebtedness here. I am happy to help when I can. If we all stick together our hobby is much more enjoyable. My reward is when there is a happy outcome. As I have said a thousand times, and it's a phrase that I heard somewhere else obviously, when it's all said and done with our lives...it won't be about what we have but about what we have done. I just want my good things to outweigh my mistakes. I am still working on it . Happy collecting

If there were some type of governing body for card buying and selling, I would vote Leon for President.

GAI once encapsulated a box of cards for me before they achieved total bottom-feeder status. The person who bought it from me opened it and he said there was a pack missing. I believe him since he didn't ask for any type of reimbursement. There definitely wasn't a pack missing when I sent it in. Just saying.

Leon has been great I once had a huge gambling debt that he covered for me…I bet the Washington Generals over the Harlem Globetrotters I figured they were due. In my defense I’m pretty sure the game was rigged. He really will do anything for his board members. |

Leon once rescued my grandmothers cat from a burning house. Seriously, as a novice collector, I thoroughly enjoy these forums and the information from the members-- thank you Leon for all your work in the hobby and on this board.

On February 2nd Leon caught a boy falling from a tree, changed a tire for some old ladies, and saved an important local official from choking. Look up kindness in the dictionary and you will see pictures of Leon . Lovely Day... |

Chuck Norris dreams about being Leon. Walker Texas Ranger was based on Leon's earlier exploits, although Norris did not do the fight scenes justice.
