Hey guys,
Hope you don't mind me joining the thread. Breezy Point, where I lived, is a peninsula at the end of the Rockaways [Queens, NY], the Atlantic on one side, Jamaica Bay on the other. The entire peninsula was totally submerged under 4-6 feet of water by Sandy. All basements were completely flooded and 90% of all homes had the ocean flowing through their first floors. Hundreds of homes washed off their foundations. Worse than that, 111 homes were immolated by fire, incredibly burnt down to the ground, with only a few chimneys remaining. I choke up now thinking of those heroic volunteer firemen who battled the blaze through the night of the storm. Somehow, they contained it, else the whole Point could've been gone. Miraculously, no one died. Gotta go now, but it's good to have had this outlet. I feel a little bit ... better. Thanks. Doug Last edited by dougscats; 11-12-2012 at 09:16 PM. |
