My guess is the auction house begged the consignor to do this as a favor to raise the profile of the auction and as Jay said, the reserve will be so high it won't sell.

Why would someone who could afford this card bid in this auction, if the reserve is in fact too high? Someone who cold afford this card, I would imagine is very busy. I don't think we can gauge value from this auction, just a low estimate.

Edited to add, with some more thought and a few conversations my guess for the card will be about 2mil to 2.5 mil.....

Nah - as I said, just a guess. It would be a smart thing to do for a new auction house to try and establish themselves as a big player.

I don't know that it will have a reserve and I don't think there's anything wrong with it having a reserve, but do think it can be bad for an auction house's reputation to have too many big ticket items that don't meet reserve.
I'm not criticizing Goldin Auctions in this matter. Their first auction seemed to go well and had lots of high end stuff. And I can understand how an auction house would like to get a Wagner in its auction in any way it can. Last edited by drc; 01-07-2013 at 10:08 AM. |

Any information out there on who currently owns this card?

The stock market has been flying since this card was purchased in 2008. The guys that can afford this kind of thing have a lot more wealth available. And good returns are hard to find. The Mastro confession came out since 2008 as well, so now this is the legit #1 card in the hobby.
The card will go north of double the 2008 price. |
