Thanks Scott! I've often wondered if Don Wilson hadn't died so young if he wouldn't have thrown more no-hitters. He was still in his pitching prime. I'm not sure if you are aware of this Don Wilson Astros factoid:
On September 4, 1974, and what proved to be his last harrah before his untimely death, Don Wilson was
replaced by a pinch hitter after pitching eight no-hit innings against Cincinnati at the Astrodome. Mike Cosgrove pitched the ninth inning and gave up a leadoff single to HOF Tony Perez for the only hit as the Reds won 2-1.
What was it about Don Wilson and the Reds?
-He pitched a no-hitter against them on 4-30-69
-He struck out 18 Reds in Cincinnati on 7/14/68
-He threw a 1-hitter with 16 K's on 9/10/68
-He threw a 1-hitter against the Reds on 9/17/71 at HOU
Too weird! Let's just say that Don Wilson knew how to pitch to one very good Cincinnati Reds team....
