Big New York Times piece today on Hal Chase
Complete with T3 as illustration. Looks at how he screwed up his career via cheating, throwing games and other manifestations of his "corkscrew mind." Did not know he mocked Frank Chance after agreeing to move to second base...

Was 1913 the first year they were officially the Yankees? They're called the New York Yankees on the T205 cards.

Several years ago I sold a T206 Chase on ebay. At the time I was writing little bios of the players depicted in the auction ads. I really laid it on thick about what a louse Hal was. Kind of embarrassing when the winner turned out to be Harold Chase III, Hal's grandson.

Many, if not most, casual baseball fans or non prewar collectors have never heard of Hal Chase beyond maybe having heard the name. To illustrate the magnitude of star that he must have been, I point out that he is the only player with five different cards in the T206 set - more than even the legendary Ty Cobb.

not sure when the official name change took place, but Yankees was their unofficial nickname dating all the way back to 1904.

Wouldn't it be great if...
they made a movie about him? Not sure who would play Prince Hal, but I'd love to see them recreate that era on the silver screen...
