Plank attended Gettysburg Academy (a prep school affiliated with Gettysburg College).
Gettysburg College pitching coach, Frank Foreman, was Plank's mentor for the years Plank pitched for the College team. In the Spring of 1901, Foreman contacted his friend Connie Mack. Eddie Plank essentially went from Gettysburg College team to the Philadelphia A's without any Minor League experience. Nothing unusual about this, since Connie Mack preferred to scout his players directly from College BB teams. Plank did not enroll in Gettysburg College.
