I remember seeing the movie years ago on TV. If I remember correctly, it didn't mention much about the girl's father being a baseball player, but I did enough research at the time that I figured out the Larry Miller portrayed in the film was, indeed, the ex-Dodger pitcher.
I just checked, and the film was a TV movie, made in 1981 - "The Miracle of Kathy Miller." From the IMDB - "With the support of her parents (Sharon Gless & Frank Converse), an Arizona adolescent (Helen Hunt) overcomes severe injuries to run in a 10K race." I enjoyed the movie when I saw it - but have no idea if it is available on VHS/DVD, or is still shown on TV occasionally.
