It was also Packards 50th anniversary, so maybe the dealer figured on making the gift as publicity.
If Mathewson was awarded a Packard during his playing days it might have even been done with the help of the factory. All in all it's a pretty nice example of a car that's not all that common, and it seems to have some nice documentation even if it was bought rather than given as a gift. Steve B |
