Let's see your WWII related items
I'm in the middle of reading John Kilma's excellent book "The Game Must Go On" and have to say it's a fantastic read. While reading it, it got me thinking about what items we may have that deals with basebase ball during the war years. Let's see some WWII baseball related items. I'd start but as of right now I really don't have anything, but think a new focus may be in the works.

WWII era sports & non-sports cards......
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for. Anyhow, the BOWMAN GUM Co. continued to issue their 1941 Play Ball cards into 1942.
Then followed up with their War Gum cards (1942 - 1943). TED Z . |

Letter on the right is from Eddie Collins to pitcher Otey Clark discussing draft status.
I've posted this one before. Here is a Mel Ott and others signed Belgium note. The players/writer were on a USO tour during WW2, more specifically during the Battle of the Bulge. Purchased it from the son of the guy who originally obtained the signatures. Photo caption: Baseball icons (far side of table, left to right): Frankie Frisch, manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates; Mel Ott, player-manager of the New York Giants; Bucky Walters, pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and Dutch Leonard, pitcher for the Washington Senators share Christmas dinner with soldiers of the 90th Infantry Division at Cattenom, France - December 25, 1944 (U.S. Army Signal Corps, Courtesy National Archives). |
