The Best Baseball player born the same day as you
Based off the "Best Baseball Player Born on Thanksgiving top 3" thread it got me wondering who the best player born on the same day as me was.
Born Sept 4th there was only one obvious choice for me: Mike Piazza you can check it out at : http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/birthdays.cgi

For me, November 17th, is a no brainier. Tom Seaver and I share the same date but Billy Macmillon (don't remember him) was actually born the same exact day and year as me.

I was going to do a thread like but checked and there were ZERO on my date of birth so hence the thanksgiving thread...and people born just on the day and month were pretty bad..

I know this is a common name thrown around on this board, but Shoeless Joe Jackson is actually the correct response in this instance.

I see others listing multiple HOF and that is cool. I am in a family of 6 and not a single one of us shares a birthday with a HOF (until Piazza makes it for my DOB). So my other family member best, in my opinion, are the following: Wife - Dec 10th: Jimmy Johnston (Gregorio Petit was born the same day) 1st Born - Sept 12: Charlie Keller or Mickey Lolich (possibly Freddie Freeman, but too early to know) 2nd Born - Dec 12th: Orlando Hudson or Ralph Garr 3rd Born - Jan 13th: Kevin Mitchell or Bob Forsch 4th Born - July 6th: Manny Machado

And now I'm going to check the BR page! It might be Phil Nevin! My vote is Sabo. Those goggles are dreamy. |

Me and my dad have the same birthday. For "my" generation, the best would be Chase Utley. For "his" generation, the best would be Chico Cardenas.
However, my favorite would be Rebel Oakes. His T206 card was the first pre-war card I ever bought. Cool thread!

Jeff Cirillo, who, interestingly enough was my favorite player on the Brewers for several years, was born two years before I was. Darned good pure hitter and a great defensive third baseman. I always felt he got robbed out of a few Gold Gloves, and now the defensive metrics show I was probably right. Ken Caminiti won the 1997 NL Gold Glove at third base with a -1.0 dWAR, while Cirillo didn't get it at third in the AL with a +2.1 dWAR at third (Matt Williams at least had a 1.9 dWAR for the Indians). In 1998, Cirillo had a 1.9 dWAR, but Scott Rolen of the Phillies had a 1.7, and won it. In 2001, Cirillo had a 2.2 dWAR, but Rolen again won it, this time with a 1.2 dWAR. Oh well. Cirillo was a career .296 hitter. He hit .311 in his first 8 seasons, but hit the wall at age 32 when he went to Seattle.
My other choice is Matt Kemp. But I'm a Brewers fan, so Cirillo it is. Cirillo and Kemp both made two All Star Games. The only other player to ever make the All Star Game born on September 23 was Peter Harnisch, one time.

People that are into astrology may make more of this, but I find it interesting how some dates are stacked with great players and HOF then other dates you would really have to question using the word "great" even when they are the best for that particular birthday.
One list I found online from 2011 gave these numbers for the amount of HOF by month: 25 -- April 24 -- October 23 -- December 22 -- May 21 -- September 21 -- August 19 -- November 19 -- July 18 -- March 15 -- January 14 -- February 11 -- June With someone stating: Quote:

I'd say Mark Buehrle and Gavvy Cravath for March 23.
OT: One of the most depressing moments of my life was when the Tribe let go of Travis Fryman, saying he was over-the-hill, and I looked and he's two days YOUNGER than I am. That's when my dream of becoming a major league shortstop ended. |

I was surprised by how many guys were listed for Dec 11th, not surprisingl was how many of them were journeymen, more or less "pluggers" just like me. Three recognizable names of players with notable careers popped out; Derek Bell. Lee Maye and Bill Nicholoson. At the bottom of the listing was one HOF'r Old Hoss Radbourn.

This is a fun thread!
I have 52 players with top of the list being Monte Irvin, Ron Santo, Andy Pafko, Paul O'Neill and Cesar Cedeno. Some fun early players too. I might start a subcollection of players born on my birthday because of this, lol.

Mine is Muhsin Muhammad who was a pretty darn good receiver in the NFL. Now my assistant JV baseball coach was a kid in the minors who graduated a little earlier and came back to help the team till they called him up. I called him Coach Smoltz, his parents called him John.

Alas with a birthday of February 29th my odds are 1/4th as good as any other day. However 1931 WS hero Pepper Martin was born on leap day 1904. He was gone by the time I was born in 1972.
In other sports, hockey's Simone Gagne got to bear the brunt of the "how old are you - oh that explains it" jokes. As did Tampa 2 inventor Monte Kiffin

January 6th
While I was able to take my older brother to a football game on his birthday
(9/13), he cannot do the same (Baseball for me) for me as my birthday is January 6. I do enjoy, however, enjoy having the latest Hall-of-Fame election results revealed every year on my birthday...just for me, right? . .
