Anyone else wish they had held onto a baseball card just a little bit longer?

I wish I still had my 1921 E121 "Babe" Ruth PSA 3. Never expected that card to suddenly spike higher.

I traded a Seymour/ Drum a week before Jaime mentioned in a thread that he was doing a back run. Turns out the Seymour was 1 of 1. It ended up in David Hall's collection.

One regret
selling my O'Leary hands on knees with the Broadleaf 460 back in one of Leon's auctions. Someone here on the board had it last I knew. Had sent to to SGC for grading beforehand, it came back as trimmed, I protested, but didn't have enough time to resubmit. Know it showed up at an auction later in an SGC 20. Could probably sell it now and pay for my house.

Pete I just fainted and died when I read your comment. Say it ain't so. That my dream card. If I ever made it rich I would would not collect high end or even ultra rare. That Ruth might be my only splurge.

Not pre-war or baseball, but sold a PSA 8 Bill Russell rookie (offline) in early 2015 for $8K. There were no public sales in the year before that, and I had trouble finding a buyer on here at that price for a month.
Next time one sold at auction a couple of months later, it went for close to $30K, and hasn't wavered from there too far in the past two years now - argh! |

I wish I had my Horner back. Got it for a steal on eBay and flipped for a nice profit but that money is long gone now. My love for Horner isn't:

Sold a nice '49 Leaf Jackie a few years ago and the price has almost tripled since then.
However, I'm sooo glad I pulled the trigger on my T206 green cobby when I did. I got in before they reason took off. |

Nice to see my posts are getting the attention they deserve. I wonder how many of my comments deserve their own threads...

The image of seeing you throw up again and again sounds like a Youtube video in the offing.

I bought a '25 Gehrig Exhibit raw, came back a 5 and ended up in a 6 holder. I sold it around a dozen years ago for a record price of 10k at the time. Now it's a hundred k.....oh well.

I sold a 55 Koufax 6 a few months before the gold rush of '16, but truthfully, it's the fear of having a juicy story that would contribute to threads like this that dissuade me from selling that much.

LOL......I have everyone here beat. Owned 2 M101-5 Ruth rookies about 10 years ago. Sold a raw one in P condition for $3k and sold a PSA 4 for $16,500. I think the raw now resides in SGC 10 or aut and sold close to $30K last time and I just believe the 4 recently sold for $287K. Those would have come in handy today for my daughter's Ivy League tuition. I can name numerous more like the 48 Leaf Paige, 48 Leaf Robinson PSA 6, 32 US Caramel Ruth PSA 6, over 40 1933 Ruths, and a few more. That is life and what collecting is about. You win some and you lose some.

Oh and forgot about the 55 Clemente that graded an 8.....(raw set buy from Mastronet years ago). I think I sold for $4000 or so way back when. All tough cards now.

I, too, bought a raw M101-5 Sporting News Ruth from Lew Lipset many moons ago. Had it personally graded by Derek Grady at a Ft. Washington show, where it received a 70 ex+. Consigned to Kevin Struss and sold at a Mastro auction for about $15,000. Probably fetch about 10x that today. And so it goes. |

Yes. It took a few years for the prices to really jump but I sold all 4 T206 posses of Ty Cobb a few years ago in PSA 6.. Really wish I still had them, especially the greenback

Wasnt it though back then a bit of uncertainty that the Ruth 'rookie' may not always be considered a rookie for the collecting masses. It appears now thats not an issue anymore. |
