Picked up an “attractive” Joe D Type 1 photo used for his blue tint card. I wanted it to go with my Gehrig. I wonder if people asked Joe to say whatever the opposite of cheese is for better pictures. Anyway, glad to add it to card image collection.

Clint, where did you get the bronze from? Is it a repro of the original? I know at one time Doug Allen was going to make a recast and sell them again but, I was unaware if he actually went through with it or not? Incidentally, mine come from the original owner who was given the statue by Walter Johnson himself.

I believe mine is fresh to the market as its been with the original owner for 60 or 70 years. It was actually a gift from Walter Johnson to a friend and was passed down from the friend to his daughter etc. Thanks again |

Bob: The article that accompanied the picture of the bunch of them said that a total of 50 were produced. I've always assumed they were sold to defray the cost of Dunbar's work when the big statue never got authorized. Clint: I think the red "W" was painted on after the fact, I've only seen the one like that. Last edited by Hankphenom; 02-14-2018 at 06:31 PM. |

I’ve been after one of these, still in the bag, for a while. This was the first bobbin’ head ever. They produced Giants, D**gers, Braves and White Sox. 98 cents in 1960. You can see how the color base series got its mold.

Recent pickup I finally got around to taking some pictures, if anything it is a bit nicer than I remembered it being. No glove, tag or anything else inside. I had posted about this in the BST and wanted the people that asked to see it had a chance if they forgot to check back there. I'd love to find the glove that originally came with it, there are low grade examples available but I'd like a nice blue one.

I'm really stoked to have added this circa 1930's 36" Ernie Lombardi H & B "Blue Streak" bat to my Vander Meer "double no-hit" collection.

"The Schnozz" was Vandy's catcher for both of his back-to-back no-hitters on June 11th and June 15th, 1938. This bat will be a nice complimentary piece and will join two Vandy model bats that I have in my collection. Can any of our resident bat experts share what they know about this particular Lombardi model bat being called a "Blue Streak"? I'm guessing it's because Lombardi could hit up a blue streak (career .300 hitter, but arguably the slowest runner in baseball history), but I am curious. Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!
