As a kid listening to Scully call the Dodgers on KABC in 1979, you would have thought Manny Mota was a cross between Ty Cobb and Father Time. Listening to his record-breaking pinch-hit was one of the biggest highlights of my early fandom.
I was crashing at a friend's place who mentioned he still had an old shoebox of cards from back in the day. I came across the Mota, and he was happy to give it to me. Next to it is a French trade card from around 1910. Some of you know I also collect Isaac Newton. This isn't Newton but I stumbled across it in a Newton search and just found it too stunning to pass up. So many cards back then were works of art. A couple pickups I saw posted here reminded me that 1953 Topps had a similar artistic quality. ![]() ![]() Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J327A using Tapatalk
