I don't hate McGwire. Baseball was totally ignorant to the performance benefits of HGH, which to my understanding is not as harmful to the body as many of the steroids that were out then.
If I had an injury, I would not turn down the offer of HGH to help heal my body. That said, it certainly was a performance enhancer for him. 6 foot 5 inch 1st Basemen don't have a history of coming back from debilitating back injuries like he suffered through for a few seasons in Oakland, bigger and stronger and more flexible then ever before.
