I just checked the pop report on the 1914 Ty Cobb and there are only 5 PSA 8's and one 8.5 and when you look at the top sets listed in the registry three of these are claimed so it sounds like it will be very difficult to secure that card in an 8.
Good luck and it sounds like you are buying great cards for their future.
