Absolutely he doesn't have to post the image. That is certainly his call. Figured it could save him some $$ if it's an obvious fake, which outnumber the real thing at least 10 to 1.
If he wants to go straight to authentication, certainly PSA/DNA or JSA will help best if it ever goes to auction. SGC and Beckett are both options as well.
