Peter- I am scratching my head too, with the sudden, seemingly unprovoked spike.
In regards to your last line...he was a fiery competitor, who won 5 rings, and was extremely well-liked. That all adds up. Also, I think people forgot, or simply don't realize...he's number 6 on the all-time hits list. That's a pretty big deal, considering all the greats who have played the game.
