October Pick-Up Thread

A sharp later-years Mickey for the day after his birthday.

This card / Topps is sometimes criticized for the picture used - lack of action shot / �he�s hungover� / that kind of thing. Personally I�ve never thought that. It�s an honest aw-schucks Mantle grin, and yes so what he�s a little more jowly at 35 than he was in his 1950�s Topps issues. To their credit, Topps had used action or batting poses for The Mick since 1964, so they probably figured it was time for a good portrait. Besides that, I love the blue background and the large �NY� on his cap. This is certainly no Panini issue...
