A sharp later-years Mickey for the day after his birthday.
This card / Topps is sometimes criticized for the picture used - lack of action shot / “he’s hungover” / that kind of thing. Personally I’ve never thought that. It’s an honest aw-schucks Mantle grin, and yes so what he’s a little more jowly at 35 than he was in his 1950’s Topps issues. To their credit, Topps had used action or batting poses for The Mick since 1964, so they probably figured it was time for a good portrait. Besides that, I love the blue background and the large “NY” on his cap. This is certainly no Panini issue... -john ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
