Finally picked this baby up. It doesn't have the nasty print lines often found on the front and the wax stains on the back are very faint.
Borders do show some toning, and this is consistent with the other commons I have from this set. I didn't want one with borders as white as the snow on my driveway because I don't think paper from 1951 should look like it was printed yesterday! The other thing I did was measure it and it appears fine to me. I do have a few others sitting inside PSA cases and they all lined up fine. And the last thing I did was the UV test and it passed that one too. I understand that most forms of restoration can't be seen under the UV light, however, sometimes it can pick up weird sh*t! ![]() |

Here's my first addition for 2020...It's been elusive for me with this kind of centering and surface combo

I already posted this in another thread, but any time I pick up a "big" card (which, for me is anything over $100) I want to show it off
![]() Been looking to add this Berra to my set for awhile. This is actually a fairly tough card to find in grades above VG-EX for a reasonable price. I guess being card #1 means it was more likely to suffer from creases and such as it was typically on top of the pile, under the rubber band, or whatever. yogi.jpg |

Also, the price of that card is the one reason I decided not to chase the 1951 Bowman set and went after the 1952 instead. |

Two key cards in my pursuit of the 1953 Topps set arrived in Friday's mail. I still need 82 cards, including Mantle and Jackie Robinson.

Just a couple of recent upgrades. My previous 2 copies are OC quite a bit so I decided to grabbed these 2. The new to me Zernial is a black back, which really shows by the darker color on the front. I've noticed this with all the Black back cards that are in my possession.

A couple of odds and ends. The sharp-cornered, second-year 1968 Seaver is a bit further/farther (reader's choice) off center than what I usually like to grab, but the price was right and it doesn't come close to hurting my eyes. The 1973 Kellogg's Joe Rudi error is the first blank back I've run across from that set...

Those are nice! Glossy! I like the '53 set raw about as much as any. Gentle, even, authentic corner wear with those gorgeous portraits were a main inspiration for my Banty Red creations. Are you waiting for obtaining the Robinson until the end? I'm a psycho like that, Lol. Phil
