It seems the Canal Zone League team ball was formed of Armed Forces players stationed in the Canal Zone. This had nothing to do with the Panamanian Winter League. The Panamanian Winter League was around for more than 20 years. I have the statistics for all the years. Motta sponsored the Canal Zone team that won the U.S. Military Recreational league baseball pictured.
The winter League teams were normally 4 and comprised of Minor leaguers and Negro Leaguers. Normally the teams were Spur Cola, Chesterfield, Carta Vieja , Marlboro etc. |
