Ken Burns did more for the resurgence of Jackie Robinson's memory (and continued hike in memorabilia prices) than anyone else. While this most deserving renaissance of recognition would have undoubtedly happened anyway, there was a lull in the appreciation of Jackie's place in history which lasted quite some time. People needed to be reminded, and Burns was the man for the job.
As previously noted, Robinson 3X5s were pretty common 30 years ago and remained fairly accessible in the decade that followed. It honestly came as a shock when the vast majority of nice 3X5s were swallowed up to the point where finding a choice example can now prove a slight challenge. As Mike mentioned, cuts (and album pages) abounded. Jackie was a wonderful signer. Last edited by BillyCoxDodgers3B; 03-12-2021 at 09:55 PM. |
