Welcome! A good �beginner� pre-war set might be 1940 Play Ball - has connects with post-war and has a bunch of retired stars that can get you in touch with the dead ball era and �20s - like Wagner, Johnson, Mathewson and Alexander without breaking the bank.
I�ve always been a fan of the 56 set as well. Love the background action shots.
