This is a tough question and there are no simple answers. The folks here have provided some good suggestions. Personally, I would use Registered mail as I think it is the safest option, and USPS liability is up to $50,000 per package. USPS has a "chain of custody" system for these packages.
I recently sent a valuable package via FedEx because I thought it might be safer than USPS and the FedEx counter person told me that their liability was $1,000, and anything beyond that was up to my homeowners insurance. I had never heard that before. FedEx turned out to be pretty pricey and the package was not expedited. I probably could have done it just as economically with Registered mail and had full coverage for my contents. |
