I read the article and was moved by it. The article goes on to say that the New York Giants put up a plaque in deep center in the Polo Grounds to honor Grant. Giant radio announcers would describe a ball being hit toward the "Eddie Grant plaque." Supposedly, the plaque was scheduled to move west with the team in '58, but it was ripped off in the aftermath of the '57 finale. I wonder if the current San Francisco Giants ownership even knows of this story. A recreation of the plaque at Pacific Bell Park would make a lot of sense. |
