Opinions on a couple of signed T206's

I am wanting to send these to PSA/DNA but since the price for these are $150.00 each, I thought I'd get a few opinions first.
The McGraw is signed in pencil and the back is a Sweet Cap with 4 spots of paper where it was mounted in a scrapbook or the like.
The Jennings has a Piedmont back. Cannot tell what was used to sign with. Looks like faded fountain pen. Both sigs are faded.
Also, I noticed GAI auto prices are cheaper. Any thoughts on GAI auto service?

Signed T206's are truly rare and I have only seen maybe 30-40 in my life. The last came from the Jeff Morey collection outside of the abused Marquard in the last Hunt Auction.

It's tough to tell from the scan with the Jennings not quite matching any of my exemplars and the McGraw being very light. It would be in your favor to send them to PSA to be slabbed as these are truly one of a kind if authentic and worth about 10 times the asking price if authentic and I would be willing to be high bidder on those.

Where is resident VBC Authenticator Richard Simon when you need him? (flashing the Richard Simon logo in the air).

Ok, considering I usually get paid for this type of work, and I am not in the habit of giving out freebies but the McGraw stinks and I don't know on the Jennings. I just have not seen enough authentic material of his to be confident in rendering opinions on his signature.

Just a short-short story about a signed T206 lot I once saw.

In 2001, this gentlemen on eBay sold nine T206's with signatures on them. The signatures were noted in the description as 'a young kid writing the names on the front'.

The Hall Of Famers were Rube Waddell, Iron Man McGinnity, Miller Huggins, Jimmy Collins and Frank Chance. The lot sold for I believe $110 (the cards were hammered).

So what do you think happened next? The winning bidder sold them individually as 'being authentic' and tripled his money. Tripled his money?

Those five Hall Of Famers broken up in a Mastro catalog would probably bring in more than $4K!

I actually have 4 signed cards total. These are the 2 I thought had a shot at being real based on a few signature copies I've seen. Mcgraw was the only sig I couldn't track down an image. Sounds like it is no good.

Knowing whether they're good or bad, is not my bag.
About 15 years or so ago, I was in Dr. Koos shop.
In his case were a couple of interestingly signed T206's.
All this of course, was before my research and findings about the creative Dr. Koos.
Although the signed T206 were interesting, my real interest were in the Doyle error cards that he had.
It was a learning experience.
Richard Simons, you probalbly don't remember me, but you might recall the incident.
At a show, I once bought a binder from you that had some signed 3x5's.
I went home, thought nothing about it, and to be looked at later.
About a day or so, I get a call from you, stating that in one of the card slots there were more than 1 card in it.
I go and get the binder, and sure enough, there were five or six cards of who ever it was - I can't remember.
I can't remember exactly, but I think I sent you a check for the extra cards, and that took care of the escaping cards caper.
This was during the time that I was living in NYC.
In any case Richard, I always enjoyed dealing with you, it was always a pleasure.

Duly note that the cost is much less to get signed trading cards, as opposed to regular autographs, looked at by PSA/DNA. Last I heard, it's about $20 or so to get a signed card slabbed by them.

Jim,
Your Rube Marquard autographed T206 looks genuine to me. I have seen several T206's signed by Marquard, probably because he was living until June of 1980 and had many opportunities to sign.

I agree, the Marquard is nice.

It matches almost identical to the one that just sold in Hunts Auction. That one had a 'wicked' crease through the center and I think sold for a touch under $50.

T206 Dave, I like looking at your Marquards too.

You don't see many signed T206s. A couple of years ago, a Mike Gutierrez Auction had a single lot of a handful of HOFer signed T206s. Included some primos, like Cobb, Cy Young and Chance. He also sold a Ty Cobb signed c. 1909 caramel card. The story was that Jeff Morey (well known old time autograph collector, for those who don't know) got Cobb to sign the caramel card at a restauraunt or cafateria while Cobb was eating.

While signed T206s/T205s/etc are tough to find, autographed Goudeys and Play Balls are fairly plentiful. The simple reason being that that the Goudey and Play Ball players lived much later, with many alive into the 1980s and 1990s. If you follow reputable sellers and auction houses, you can pick up a nice signed Goudey or Play Ball common for pretty cheap. Even HOFers like Burleigh Grimes and Wait Hoyt are relatively affordable.

So the autograph "Gods" have spoken. At least they are fast.
