Mize is wearing the pre-1941 cap (which may date back to 1939 or earlier), while Slaughter is wearing the post-1941 version, which was blue with a red bill. I seem to recall the Cards briefly used a blue and red cap with a less ornate "STL," perhaps in 1940. Curiously, the Exhibit, the 1941 Double Play and the 1947 Bond Bread cards all used the same photo, which I believe was taken before 1940. Remarkably, he looks like grizzled veteran in the photo even though he was likely about 23 years old (24 max) when it was taken ... |
