there are not many cards on Pitcher primarily shown with a bat in his hands and not on the mound or in the motion. Not including the Babe of course in his earlier cards. |

Here's Caruthers in an at bat pose. He's probably most well known as a great 19th century pitcher but he wasn't bad with a bat. He had a .282 lifetime batting average with two pretty good back to back seasons at bat: he was fourth in batting in 1886 with a .334 average and fifth in batting in 1887 with a .357 (American Association) |

Pitchers in batting poses were fairly common in N172. The V100 Red Faber also shows him batting. If I remember correctly, Jim Kaat's 1973 Topps card shows him batting. The AL adopted the DH in '73, but the photo is obviously from '72 or before. |
